You are talking about the shooting in 2016.

It isn't clear whether he ambushed the cops from the street or from a nearby parking garage. FWIW Wikipedia says the streets, but the major news outlets aren't very clear. All the news outlets do say that he fled from his spot into the parking garage where the cops pursued him and ultimately killed him with a bomb.
