while sugar levels constantly change, the is a baseline that one shoots for at certain times of the day.

Doctors like the A1C because it gives you a number that reflects sugar levels over 3 months.

You may have an awesome level when you go to the doctor, but overall, a lousy 3 month average. The toughest is the regular (2-4x/day) testing, which is why the commercials emphasize doing so. You can adjust insulin based on those levels.
