Secondly, while we don't have much direct experience with holistic care, we had a lab/pit mix that had brain cancer 5 years back. Unfortunately, it was so far spread that we didn't have much time for the "holistic approach" to work.

We drive an hour each way to take our pups to our vet because he's the best vet we've ever been to. In fact, he was voted America's Favorite Vet a few years back. He takes his time with us and looks over our dogs completely, not just rushing us out to get to his next appt.

He owns a rather large vet complex (takes horses, etc) in the middle of nowhere and when he took on a holistic care Dr, I took notice. He did so because he believes in it as well and told us that the best approach is a little of both when it makes sense.

In other words, don't buy into the hippy dippy BS holistic game (incense and vibes and all your pet needs is love) and instead do the acupuncture, herbal remedies and such and then supplement with antibiotics and "western" medicine as appropriate.

Regardless of which path you choose, I hope she makes a full recovery and is up on all four paws soon!
