I think that is the problem now...the "golden rule" doesn't work anymore
Used to be, if you just "treat people the way you want to be treated," everything is OK.
But now, different people want to be treated differently.
As an example, take someone who is upset. Some want to be left alone, some want to talk. Some want a hug, some don't want to be touched. Some would love to go out and drown their sorrow in a beer, others are offended by alcohol.
Even if you treat everyone the way you want to be treated, you will offend or harass someone eventually.
If you spend too much time thinking about it, you will probably just decide to never speak to, look at, or touch another human being in the workplace ever again.
