I'm not confusing being on the roster with being financially supported. I understand what you are saying and do not disagree there is a financial advantage. The different perception is how much of a difference in competitive advantage arises and roster sizes of comparable numbers, at least in baseball, would not bear out the original poster's contention. It also points up the fact that other factors including geography, total cost of attendance, playing time potential, fit, etc. all can play a factor in minimizing the recognized financial and education advantages that the original poster characterized as huge. You did a good job of explaining and defending your point we just disagree on the absolute level of significance. Also, to fully debate it to its natural conclusion would require info neither you or I have which is the actual make up of the rosters and the sources of their education funding.
