Who wants to be in junk bonds? You aren't going to find

good quality bonds paying more than a few percent today. The premium on a 5% bond is way too high. And tax free bonds pay nothing at all. As an example, VA State Public Building Authority Rev Bonds w/ a 5% coupon maturing in 2022 only have a 1.75% yield to maturity! I can get twice that in dividends on a blue chip stock plus very likely growth in value as well over the next 5 years.

Investing in bonds right now, with interest rates having been in the tank for so long, is a losing proposition. It's one of the reasons the stock market continues to go up -- it's where income investors have fled. And we wont see a market correction until rates go up another few percentage points.
