NCAA makes no sense, part 1242 (regrading ND)


Notre Dame self-reports violations and is forced to vacate wins from 2012 and 2013. This pushes ND from top 2 in all-time winning percentage (with Michigan) down to 6th. That's a big deal for ND fans.
They self-reported the violations, and had to vacate the wins. They are now officially 0-4 in 2013, and 0-1 in 2012 (BCS title game loss to Alabama).
Seems a little harsh for self-reporting the violations. Looks like self-reporting doesn't get the expected leniency, so why self-report?
