That was a grate convention...
Bob's speech, his retirement statement, was powerful. I stood and applauded his words and his years of service.
My convention experience allowed me to tour the USS Midway, definitely one of my lifetime highlights. I also got to ride the elevator in the hotel adjacent to Petco Park with Manny Ramirez the day before he made his return from his last extensive steroid suspension. I was riding the elevator alone to get to our breakfast buffet room when the elevator stopped and Manny and his enterage swooped onboard. I was mashed to the back as they took over the space. Manny, resplendant in his shiny coat and gold chains, was effervescent but untouchable.
Later during that convention week, I fileted my shin working at a Habitat for Humanity build site. It ended up being a most painful and stubborn wound. Took forever to heal with months of specialized treatment.
But my goodness, what a beautiful city San Diego is.
