much you could do about it.

Remember, Hulk Hogan was 6'-7" 302#, and he was genuinely terrified of Andre going off-script. Andre may have looked like a lumbering, overweight big dude with bad knees, hips, and back (and to some extent, he was by the time he got to the US), but he was also incomprehensibly and inhumanly strong. I doubt there has ever lived a man that Andre couldn't have torn apart with his bare hands if he really wanted to.
