Maybe MLB requires it for the media to help promote the upcoming game


or it could be a long standing "tradition." I am thinking back to the days when newspapers and radio were main ways people followed their favorite baseball teams or players. Although I guess ESPN, MLB TV, YES Network, and the other regional networks can benefit from knowing who the future will be when promoting a future game/series.
