I got back on an employer plan this year and it's a world of difference.
We're a small group, so it's not the best in the world...but still considerably cheaper than what I paid out on my own. I didn't some analysis of my individual plan from last year (which was the only plan available to me in my area). I paid $18k in premiums ($1500/month)...plus another $4k+ in deductibles/copays for over $22k total. Insurance company paid out less than $800. They then had the gall to send me a letter stating they had "saved" me $6-7k because I was a part of their "network" and got their network rates. But the reality was if I paid out of pocket "retail" rates without insurance I would've only paid like $11k or so, so in essence I paid an additional $11K just to be insured...then they told me they were going to raise my rates another $500/month this coming year. So happy to tell them to pound sand. If you can afford it...there's nothing affordable about it.
