My tankless opinion

i live outside of Chicago. did tons of research. got general quotes from 3 installers. all within 200 on the same model. one guy offered to come out and i'm glad he did.

small-ish conversion fee, and may or may not need a dedicated outlet depending on code in your area. they burn about 4x the normal tanks at right around 199k BTU, so it's using a lot more gas, but the efficiency factor is dependent on a few other things. the main thing that made it less efficient for us is that the water comes into the house too cold for a longer part of the year. the other thing, and this is what sealed it for me, is he said that because they burn so much more gas, you could begin to smell it. the gas smell makes me nauseous, and i literally cannot stand it. i was done after that, and i am really glad i had him come out. he will be the guy to replace my heater (almost 19 years old...) when it finally goes.
