There are so many online tools now, there is no need to rely solely on


an agent. You can set up as many searches as you want, using various criteria. If you see a house you like, you can call your agent to show it to you. It shouldn't be a problem to ask the agent why a particular house didn't show up in their search. A house search may be a bit of a learning process for both you and your agent, as you discover what criteria are truly important to you.
