Still no excuse for blowing saturday


Course setup. USGA has had several open runs at shinnecock and has made the same mistakes. The soil structure in the hamptons drains and dries very quickly and if you double cut and double roll greens like saturday you are risking overcooking those greens with moderate winds especially with raised and exposed green structures.architect flynn did not design those greens to stimp at 12 to 13. The USGA gambled on saturday and paid the price. Sunday they single cut greens and watered more and the greens held up but just.
