Also heard that the captain told passengers not to get lifejackets.

That was a comment from one of the survivors. From looking at the video, it looks like the biggest problem would have been getting out of the boat. It looks like it might have had glass (or plastic) windows along the sides (preventing exit over the sides), meaning passengers would have to make it to the bow or stern to exit, and those exits may have been too small to get all out quickly.
