Very Late to this Conversation ... but

I agree with many of the comments below that wearing this gun openly 24/7 during normal family activities in a Fairfax County cul-de-sac (not the Wild Wild West or Harlem) is a bit weird and people around him have every reason to feel uncomfortable. He is making a statement about his 2d A rights and probably other things ... like maybe a "don't F with me" statement, minus the gym time.

Does he have the right? Yes. Does he need the gun in that setting? No. Is it weird in Fairfax County? Yes. Should the original poster feel safe having his child around that person's home? I wouldn't. And that has less to do with the gun and more to do with the questions the guy's conduct raise for me.

The fact that (1) his mother quickly admonished him and (2) he responded by putting the gun away shows that his mother understands that it is odd behavior (again, for the setting) and rightly makes others uncomfortable ... and that he also has some sense of that as well.

I have very ordinary friends who carry concealed guns all the time and have never shot them other than hunting or at a firing range. One friend is an extremely pretty, single mother with several pretty daughters. She has taken many shooting lessons, and I know she feels safer with her gun. I have no problem with that.
