USN&WR focuses on the undergraduate experience.

It doesn't take any research into consideration. It's basically meant as a guide for parents of high school kids trying to make a decision about where to send their kid off to college.

The focus of the ACC Academic Consortium is also focused on the Undergraduate Experience, which makes it consistent with what USN&WR is focused on.

It's a different story over in the Big Ten with B1G fans and supporters. They tend to want to focus on Graduate Research, ARWU world rankings, AAU, etc. That's fine, but I've always maintained that college athletes are undergraduate students and not PhD students or professional school students for the most part. We are comparing athletic conferences usually which is more undergraduate.

I agree that further granular rankings of curriculum by department is more information to research the best schools for your degree interest. But since USN&WR is really for high school student parents, most high school students picking a college have no idea what they want to major in. Some do, but most don't.
