I am not sure you can truly compare Dirk's take on the character to hers though because the dynamic in the relationship between Apollo and Starbuck is depended upon whether Starbuck is male or female.

Plus, it is even tough to compare the reboot to the original given the original was only on for 1 season (1978-1979) or 2 seasons if you want to include the spinoff show Galactica which aired only 10 episodes in 1980, the original was written more like a miniseries or made-for-TV movie than a TV series, and the special effects in the original were definitely not on par with the reboot.
