lottery based on birthdays. Not sure if you have the same number the whole time you're eligible, or if they repeat the process every year. Had a friend that came of age in that time. He went to college and got a deferment. But ended up flunking out of college, losing his deferment, got drafted and sent to Vietnam. When he returned he re-enrolled in college and started making Dean's List. Amazing how certain life events can change priorities.
