My dad was in Vitetnam...Army Intelligence. When he got to Saigon, every day the commanders would post assignments for the men staying in the Saigon area. And every night, while the men were “sleeping”, they would come through the barracks to grab the guys heading out to the jungle assignments.

He said those were the longest nights of his life. One day his name was posted. Very lucky for him. He was helicoptered up north once to investigate the disappearance of one of his peers who wasn’t as fortunate.

Can’t imagine the stress. Anyway, your post reminded me of that. It’s something that has stuck with me since the day he told me.
