My jury story

I was selected for jury duty when I lived in Miami. Had to drive to the downtown area, and pay for parking. (No reimbursements unless you're selected for a jury...bastages!) The jury pool room probably had 150-200 people all sitting around waiting to be selected. Two hours in, an official walked in and said something in Spanish. Half of the room got up and walked out. I asked a guy sitting near me what's up, and he said they made an announcement that if English wasn't their original language, they could leave. I'm sure at least half of those people were born in Miami...lol

I was selected for a jury about an hour later. They sequestered us in a small room where we sat around waiting for news/instructions. An official walked in and said we could go. I asked what happened, and he said the prosecutor accepted a plea from the defendant. Since we had been selected for a jury, we were released. No rejoining the jury pool...out the door!
