And it is going to get worse as chord cutting grows. Providers will have to offset revenue from cable and you are actually in a worse position than you were for television because with TV you at least had an option for satellite.

You are lucky, most people don't have any competition, at least you have the local cable company and verizon. I only have cable.

Until there is a viable wireless internet technology that can deliver the bandwidth and reliability that cable does to residential customers or a new wire tech that is able to use phone wiring or electrical wiring, the barrier to entry and the local franchise rights payoffs to your local mafia (errr I mean local government) will keep your costs pretty much the same.

I cut the chord and while I am saving a little I did it more for the improved content options than for money. Once you pay for a Hulu/Youtube/Sling and the increased cost for internet when it's not bundled, the savings are small (about $20 a month for me) and I expect that to disappear soon.
