it certainly wasn't true 20-25 years ago (I worked in admissions), which doesn't preclude it from being true now, but...

acceptance %'s and yield %'s were pretty consistent back then too, when "official" visit was definitely not part of the equation...those numbers are consistent because the applicant pool in aggregate and the selection criteria just don't change much from year-to-year

legacy does matter. Parental giving? maybe in extreme cases, but, in general, admissions is not going to have any clue about parental giving.

As for you daughter and her friends, explanation could be different majors or could be that all GPA's are not created equal...the courses you take matter and grades in certain courses matter much more than others
