Yes, a 10 yr old PC will be fine - as long as it runs. Some very older PCs tend to have hardware issues.

Ubuntu is a well known distro and it includes LibreOffice with equivalents for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

You can also run Virtual Box and then run multiple Virtual Machines with different Linux distros
