If the Big XII decided to use a zipper model with the divisions
then would 5 (or even 6) schools from the state of Texas be too many given the pickings are slim in that part of the country? In theory each division would have a minimum of 3 games against Texas schools each year in a given sport. For discussion sake, here is an example of how the Big XII could look using the zipper model with the protected cross-division pairings.
Division A/Division B
Iowa St - WVU
Kansas - Kansas St
Oklahoma - Okla. State
Texas - Houston
Baylor - TCU
UTEP - Texas Tech
Now the Texas pairings could be played around with depending on who the 12th member ends up being. For example.....
Texas - Texas Tech
SMU - TCU
Baylor - Houston
Under normal circumstances I do agree with you that more than 4 Texas schools is probably too much. However, I do think the Texas schools may be better quality than any options in the state of LA, NM, CO, maybe UT, NV, and most states east of the Mississippi River.
