Most definitely - his entire existence and decision making through the

series has been based on this code of honor established by his "father" Ned Stark. I'm hoping Sam's clarification that Ned was in fact being extremely honorable by shaming his own name to keep a promise will hit home for Jon. I'd hate for him to change his moral compass in the episodes to come because of that conflict.

The following theory is based partially on scenes from Season 8, episode 1 - AKA Spoiler Alert!

Last night supported my possible theory for how the series will end - though there are about a thousand possible conclusions still on the table.

For a lot of folks, the Theon rescuing Yara scene seemed like a throwaway waste of time. Why was she captured in the first place if Theon would just rescue her with such little effort. For me, it's because of the comment she made that reclaiming the iron islands would provide a place for the "good guys" in the north to fall back to if they are not successful. A place the dead could not go. My personal belief is that the white walkers are victorious in the north. They ultimately fall back to king's landing in hopes of persuading cersei to rethink her position and join them for one last stand against the white walkers. cersei betrays them and defeats the northern army and their allies only to succumb to the night king & his army. So she "wins" the game of thrones but her prize is to lord over the dead as the queen to the night king. Meanwhile, a faction of the good guys retreat to the iron islands. At the center of this faction is the "prince that was promised" who is Jon & Dany's child. The series concludes with Sam Tarly narrating stories of the series to this young child who is supported by some other major characters (one or two of the remaining starks, either Tyrion or Jaime, Varys, etc...). The series concludes with the hope that one day this prince will return to westeros to take down the night king and the army of the undead.
