To answer your question, I usually look at HotPads and Craigslist


for finding an apartment. I've always gone with Craigslist apartments because I've always gotten a better deal than if I lived in an apartment building. Some guy renting out his house or condo is usually less interested in sticking you with fees or maximizing his ROI, so there are usually better deals to be found there.
