I am talking about problems with the very sport itself, not how the league

is structured and operated.

Heck, the NFL is on its way to proving that bad organizational decisions can eventually sink even the most popular of sports. But that aside, football is still inherently more interesting to Americans than soccer. The two items I mentioned were meant to address the overall interestingness of the sport to Americans.

I do think the USA's general ineffectiveness in the World Cup is holding the sport back. And that likely goes to how the sport is administrated in this country. I would have to think if the US decided it was going to truly take soccer seriously, we would very quickly become the world's superpower in the sport.
