Maybe I'm thinking more of soccer's ceiling.

Totally agree how a sport is run, from peewee levels to the pros, will affect how good the players are and ultimately how interesting it is to fans.

But baseball is, overall, a well-run organization. Yet it still the 3rd most popular sport and is poised to lose that spot to soccer. There are just some things about the sport itself (not how it is run) that are unappealing to many. Same thing with hockey. No matter how well run it is, no matter how exciting the games are, there is a ceiling for how popular it will ever be just because it is played on the ice.

People have been projecting soccer to overtake football/basketball for decades, but it just seems to grow slowly instead of explode in popularity. And I do think there are some things about how the sport is played that means it just won't be interesting to a lot of Americans, no matter how well the sport is run. But I do think a well run soccer program in the US could get it to be America's 3rd favorite sport.
