having a less qualified applicant selected over a more qualified applicant with the primary differentiator being a vaguely defined 'adversity factor' isn't a problem? This is similar to competitive youth sports not playing the best players so that lesser players can have a chance - it bring the quality of the entire league down. If the score is there, it will be used and there is no question that more accomplished applicants will be left behind in favor of others simply due to factors that shouldn't be part of the equation IMHO.
