In a popular online video, people step forward if they fit criteria
There is a line of people of different ethnic groups on a grass field, and then they ask people to step forward if certain things were true about their lives. Some of the things are whether their parents divorced, whether they went to a public school and even whether their cellphone was cut off because they couldn't pay (I chuckled at that one).
In the video, the people left after the questions are all nonwhite, and the point was to show the disadvantages they had vs. others. Except I'm white, and I answered all the same ways those in the video did. I posted that on FB once, and was attacked by people who felt I had advantages that weren't even part of that video. This has made me highly suspicious of assumptions and attempts to adjust to address perceived inequities. We need to focus on outcomes and achievement first, IMO. Lots of people with assumed inequities kick ass anyway. [Post edited by WestyHokie at 05/16/2019 10:58AM]
