That would depend
neither the ACC or LHN have to have the other rammed down their throat as ESPN has long term deals with both already in place. The original LHN deal was 20 years I think meaning it expires sometime 2031/2032. The ACC deal runs pretty concurrent with the GOR so that puts it out to 2035 and 2036. It would be in everybody bests interests to work amicably with their partners as the old adage "half of something is better than all of nothing". Texas took their one shot with the LHN while aligned with the Big 12. No future conference is going to expose themselves to being Texas' bitch after watching how they screwed over the Big 12. Just as important, the fact that Texas football and basketball now is decidedly closer to mediocre than great further reduces UT's leverage.
The tipping point for both ESPN and Texas is when the LHN is an increasing drag on operations compared to other network competitors. The LHN bled cash for about the first 5 years but, operations have stabilized somewhat. It is not a big moneymaker for ESPN but, no longer a bottomless cash pit either. The eventual motivation will come when a deal appears workable that provides ESPN more cash flow combining UT/LHN with another property than it presently does now. With UT's rights controlled and exclusive negotiating periods if they decide to leave the Big 12, ESPN also has some leverage were Fox/Big Ten or the PAC 12/PAC12 network to be considered as future landing sites for UT. All probably good for message board fodder until current Big 12 agreements expire which I think(could be wrong) is somewhere in the 2023/2024 period. [Post edited by 2hhoop3 at 09/05/2019 11:21AM]
