I kind of find Scorsese's remarks about Marvel films negative impact

on "cinema" amusing considering is coming film (which I assume will be another excellent organised crime film by him) is being released to Netflix with just a limited theatrical release to allow for awards contention.

The whole thing is stupid.... is the definition of "cinema" limited to movies based on no other source material with a limited budget and meager box office?

How is Gang's of New York - based on the book, The Gangs of New York, really any different than a big budget film based on comic book? Is the difference DiCaprio? Daniel Day-Lewis? Oscar nominations? Marketing budget?

It just comes down to how (or why) you define "cinema" I know there is a lot that goes into the whole formula of big-budget action movies but comic book films have come a long way and there are some great directors behind them trying to make them more than just spectacles. I don't get the point of something being diminished artistically because a lot of people like it.
