I, too, have a TON of mature trees in my yard...
My opinion is that the leaves fall faster than the mulched leaves from the week before will decompose, so by the end of the leaf-dropping season, you're going to have too much mulched leaf material in your grassy areas and it might start to kill the grass by blocking sunlight and constantly staying damp.
I'm about to have a bunch of trees cut down. I hate to do it, because one of them is probably 100+ years old, but the maintenance and upkeep is getting out of hand, and it's also pretty terrifying living in a ranch house surrounded by gigantic trees during heavy windstorms.
