It's good as a weight loss tool because less calories are consumed.


Re: Intermittent fasting, there are a couple of mice studies that have some favorable results showing even better retention of muscle mass than consistent eating but it's never been repeated to be shown in human studies.

I personally don't think there is any scientific benefit to fasting for long or short periods, at least not as some optimal choice as opposed to spreading out 3 to 5 meals/snacks a day.
