Fasting for 3 or 4 days or longer is a great way to lose both fat AND

lean muscle mass. Lean muscle mass is like gold, why do things (that aren't fun and sound horrible, frankly) that guarantee you will lose some of that precious gold? Just doesn't compute in my brain. I don't think people are thinking this through. The start to better health is to just stop putting all nutrients in your body for an uncomfortable length of time? BS. We want to eat like we did when our life expectancy was less than half what it is now? ;-)

Most importantly, plenty of clinical studies on the subject which don't really back it up as anything more than a painful calorie deficit you can get more safely from a daily 2000 calorie diet with good nutrients spread throughout all non-sleeping hours. Spreading it out helps with a heavy focus on protein helps to ensure you keep lose more fat and less muscle when in a calorie deficit.
