Off season is always the best


There are certainly some brands better than others (Trane, etc), but it is more important to have a good installer/HVAC contractor than the actual brand. I would probably keep running with what you have.... if it does die, you can always go and buy a window unit so at least you have a cool are of the house as they are reasonably inexpensive
