My wife and I had an unsuccessful day shopping used cars for our daughters.

They’re twins who will be turning 16 in October. We made up an excuse that we’d be at the bank this morning while the wife and I looked for a car.

We intended to spend about $12-13k. We realize now we’re going to have to spend more than that to get a 2017 midrange to low range sedan.

First place we looked had a 2017 Sentra with an advertised online price of $12.9k. But with the taxes and fees, it was about $16k. We walked out.

Next place we looked had a 2017 Chevy Cruze. They wouldn’t go below $15.6k. We walked.

I’d like to buy from an individual. That would save us a couple of grand. But my wife wants the “certification” the dealer offers. Also doesn’t want to deal with the hassle of tags, title, etc., which I understand.

We’ll try again next weekend. My expectations are becoming managed.
