Buy a new home. The CLT has many, fine, old-house neighborhoods but


you'll pay through the nose for those and get problem homes, regardless of inspection protocols. Try Chapel Cove in the Steele Creek area, but you might take care to avoid vinyl siding and existing neighborhoods with more than four SUVs in each driveway. Look for Taylor Morrison builds. And remember: farther from CLT center city, the more congested two-lane roads become.

And for God's sake stay the heck away from Huntersville and Lake Norman.
