The presumption that MOST people are still honest, I guess. I had a friend


who worked for Sears in the Lawn & Garden department many years ago, when anything "Craftsman" was warrantied for life. He had someone bring in a mangled Craftsman hose one weekend, about 25 feet of a 50 foot hose, and gave that person a replacement 50 foot hose.

Next weekend? He saw that same person in there speaking with a different associate, trying to return the other half of the hose for a new hose. He stepped in and stopped that effort.
