I'm still going with heuristics, it wasn't a very expensive item, companies are basically breaking even and/or losing money on "free" shipping these days and yeah, maybe they're getting a lot of returns on this particular item, eg, word will get out and they won't sell many more so no need to junk up the warehouse and with just-in-time logistics that warehouse thing starts grinding gears if too much stuff gets returned. Oh yeah, you paid $19.99 for that item, they paid $3.99 a copy wholesale for that item and like you say, most people are just trying to get something not run scams.
