Taught my daughter a manual over the summer
I tried to manage the expectations early. I explained you are going to be really bad at this. It is going to make no sense. You aren't going to know what you are doing wrong, and I probably won't be able to tell you. There is just a "feel" to it that you need to figure out and it will take time.
I tried looking up videos on teaching someone to drive a stick, and they were all filmed in Florida where it is perfectly flat. My daughter had flat terrain figured out within half an hour. That's easy. But we live in the NRV. There are plenty of stop signs and traffic signals that will strand you on a steep incline...starting with the signal to turn into C-burg high school.
Getting that figured out probably took a dozen or so hour-long lessons.
No sweetie, you aren't stupid, you aren't incompetent, and you will get it. It will just take some time. This is not easy, and anyone who says different is full of it.
