I remember as a teenager, you wouldn't ever think of buying a used car with
more than about 60K miles on it. Car is basically used up at that point. If you get a car to 100K, you probably had to rebuild the engine somewhere along the way and the rest of the car is about to fall apart.
The ten year old Mazda with 212K miles that I'm giving my daughter has been more reliable than I would have thought possible when I was a teenager. Only thing besides normal wear-and-tear items (brakes, tires, a battery, wiper blades, etc) I think has ever needed replacing was the stereo.
