The presenter showed specifically contradictory statements (i.e. to be the victim of microaggressions you have to be a member of a marginalized group...or you don't...no you do...unless you don't). The student simply pressed for additional information/explanation to explain the contradictory statements.

You know, the exact kinds of pointed questions we are told to ask in college. Think for yourself. Challenge the establishment. Ask hard questions. That's what we were taught university was for, right?

As to the threats, they have not appeared in any of the articles I've read, nor in the lawsuit documents. They were also a very late addition to the story. They were cited as reason for the 4-year restraining order by the C-ville police to stay off campus, but had nothing to do with his suspension/mandated counseling/expulsion.

UVA has been conspicuously non-specific about everything they claim the student did. Every accusation they've levied has been worded as a sweeping generalization, not an account of specific words or actions that violated any policy. If they had anything specific to support their stance on the threats, why wouldn't that be available, either in the media or the lawsuit?
