First, I would have loved for VT to have gone to the SEC back when it was
all going down in 2003. But we are in the ACC for better or for worse and I'm satisfied with our station. I want the ACC to improve as a conference, I'm not looking for a backdoor way to get into the SEC.
That being said, I just don't think the answer to being as good as the SEC lies in limiting SEC growth, but by getting good on the field. Beating the SEC on the field. I for one am not afraid of SEC hegemony.
WRT ESPN, I don't see it as good business to make the SEC dominant while treating the ACC like trash. I think we agree on this. I can't speak intelligently to what ESPN is doing and not doing. I just don't think they have it out to wreck the ACC. And if we (the ACC) feel that ESPN is out to get us (on purpose or not), we should be looking to do business with another sports network. I will say this however, if the U was the U again, if FSU was FSU again, if even VT was 1999 VT again, ESPN, Comcast, etc. would be all over us with coverage. Again, it comes down to getting good. Who is going to do it? Who is going to win big games on a national stage beyond Clemson? Will it be UNC? Florida State? Georgia Tech? Why not us, Virginia Tech?
