12 team playoff gives hope for G-5 schools.
The 12 team playoff would likely have 3 or 4 SEC schools every year, maybe 2 Big 10, 1 ACC, 1 Pac-12, 1 Big 12, and Notre Dame with 2 or 3 other schools fighting it out for the other openings. The way the ACC has performed the past decade, only 1 school would likely make the playoffs each year. The Big 12 could get 2 every year. Big 10 could get 3. The Pac-12 isn't much better than the ACC but would have a slightly better chance at getting 2 schools than the ACC. A 12 team playoff almost guarantees Notre Dame a playoff appearance 7 to 8 times per decade. A 10-2 Notre Dame would be Top 12 most years. Schools like BYU, UCF and Boise State could crack the top 12 every once in a while. The SEC would be the big winners in a 12 team playoff format.
