If the SEC on sponsored 4 sports, then it would be interesting to see

what conference the SEC schools would join for the other sports they sponsor. Potentially a school could end up in 10-15 different conferences depending on the number of sports they sponsor. For example VT could end up looking like this:

ACC: M/W basketball
Independent Designation of Intercollegiate Organized Teams (IDIOT): football
Mid-Atlantic League: baseball and softball
Piedmont Conference: cross country
Bushwood Country Club Conference: M/W golf and M/W tennis
Eastern Net Conference: lacrosse and field hockey
Southeast Football Conference: M/W soccer
Aquatic Intercollegiate Conference: swimming and diving
Atlantic Volleyball League: volleyball
East Coast Wrestling Conference: wrestling

Will each conference have the opportunity to create its own network? If not, then does that mean none of the athletic events will be broadcasted? If they are broadcasted, then who owns the rights to them if a conference doesn't have its own network? Even if several conferences decide to pool their resources together, contract negotiation process may still be tricky for whatever network that sits down at the negotiation table.

The other part of the equation is how would consumers feel if they can watch their school on 6-10+ different networks? The downside to the multiple network is the consumer could be faced with the situation where they are forced to decide which sport they want to watch because 2 or more networks decided to broadcast a school's athletic event at the same time. For example, I might have to decide if I want to watch VT football, VT men's basketball, or VT women's basketball at 7pm because all 3 teams are playing at the same time.
