We see this with the talk of "ICUs at capacity". No doubt cases and

Hospitalizations have increased. I'm not denying that. But I was just reading a story with this headline: Baby girl with Covid-19 airlifted 150 miles because of Houston hospital bed shortage

Sounds dire.
Then there was this line...Callaway said Ava was having seizures and needed to be intubated but Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, where she was first taken, does not offer pediatric services.

So it sounds like she was flown to a much larger hospital that can accommodate more patients and has more pediatric beds. Also makes you think there's a huge surge. But then it says this...

Last year, the hospital had two or three Covid-19 pediatric cases at any given time, compared to five to seven in the last week to ten days, Lucia said.

So they went from about 3 during the height of infections to about 6. Percentage wise, that's huge, but it's really not. Now I'm sure this is a big deal due to number of beds and resources typically needed. And statically it's a 200% increase. But it's not a huge number.
There's also this from a doctor there... "We're also hospitalizing more and a few of those unfortunately are requiring critical care services..."
But this is also the rest of his sentence... "(though) that's not particularly common."

Finally, here's this quote in regards to a Florida hospital: "We are back beyond our pre-pandemic volumes at LBJ," hospital administrator Patricia Darnauer told CNN affiliate KTRK.
Soooooo.... They have more Covid patients (and patients in general) than they had, um, before Covid existed?

I get it. The scary numbers sell clicks and readers. But the details are important.
