In CFB's run we use to marvel at how many times a team might score on us and then Coach Foster would make some halftime adjustments and then the other team wouldn't do squat offensively the rest of the game. The COVID-19 situation is the same as when mutations and therefore variants occur then the CDC has to make adjustments - i.e. the CDC has to fit the guidance to meet the changing science. The Delta Variant is much more transmissible and carries a higher virus load. Because we didn't crush the virus by a large majority of the population getting the vaccine, the Delta Variant was able to get a foothold - and then spread like wildfire. Then the data started coming in and the scientists now see that vaccinated people can get and transmit the Delta Variant, hence the changing guidance.

The disappointing thing for me is that Virginia Tech folks are supposed to be a cut above - i.e. fairly smart for having attended such a prestigious university. Yet when I see people complaining about the changing guidance but doing little to understand why, then it is like we are a fact adverse faction that doesn't understand that OUR understanding of science evolves. The CDC doesn't change its guidance just to confuse people, it changes its guidance to meet the current situation. I am having a hard time understanding why we, Virginia Tech people have such a difficult time understanding this.
