My view is that we will lose a portion of our fan base either way


And that will equate to whatever percentage of "true believers" exist within either end of the spectrum. Those who are really bothered by the big money approach to athletics will probably withdraw their support for athletics if we go the minor league route. And those who are okay with it will likely withdraw their support if we go the amateur route.

I would say that the fault line within that dynamic runs between alumni and people who support the Hokies but have no other direct connections with the school -- but I'm not entirely convinced of that for a number of reasons.
